Similar to a home’s or building’s foundation, a solid and sturdy base prevents movement and shifting beneath the asphalt’s surface. Seal Canada’s commercial paving contractors put just as much attention on the sub-base as it does on the asphalt above it.
It starts with adding and grading existing gravel to ensure a consistent slope. The sub base is thoroughly compacted and, in some cases, left to settle (if necessary).
On all commercial paving projects, two separate layers of asphalt are put down: a base coat consisting of HL 8 (A thicker stoned rugged asphalt to act as a tough base coat), and a finish coat consisting HL 3 (a durable asphalt with a smoother surface). Two thick coats ensure maximum durability and longevity. A base coat of 2” of HL8 and a finish coat of 2” of asphalt are put down standard with all our commercial paving projects totaling 4 inches of asphalt, unless specific projects require more or thicker layers.
Call Hamilton’s #1 Commercial Paving Contractors For A Site Assessment Today!
Our Hamilton commercial paving team carefully goes through every step of this process to ensure it’s done right the first time, guaranteeing our clients pavement that lasts. Attention to detail is the key to ensuring the paved area is sloped correctly, allowing for water to drain to designated draining areas, eliminating pooling and hazards. Proper compaction ensures solid, long-lasting asphalt with a smooth and even surface.
